Can you legally grow marijuana?
Proposition 215 allows patient’s with a doctor's recommendation to possess and grow 8 ounces of medical marijuana.
What will the medical evaluation be like?
At the doctor’s office, you will be given medical forms to fill out which generally take up to 15 minutes to complete. The doctor will discuss your current medical problem in relation to the reason why you want medical marijuana, including your medical history. The doctor will also review your documents that verify you are qualified for medical marijuana. If the doctor approves you for medical marijuana, he/she will prescribe it for 1 month to 1 year. Then the doctor will issue you a medical marijuana paper recommendation prior to leaving the doctor’s office.
Who conducts the medical evaluation?
Only licensed California Medical Doctors are qualified to give patients medical marijuana evaluations.
What medical conditions qualify for Medical Marijuana?
Conditions that qualify include:
- Chronic pain
- Chronic nausea
- Insomnia
- AIDS
- Cancer
- Glaucoma
- Hepatitis
- Chronic muscle spasms
- Multiple sclerosis
- Epilepsy
- Gastrointestinal disorders (IBS)
- Crohn's disease
Medical marijuana is also prescribed for patients who are unable to eat, or certain medical treatments that cause major discomfort.
What should you bring along to your doctor’s appointment?
Bring a valid California photo ID and your medical documentation expressing the reason you are applying for a Medical Marijuana Identification Card (MMIC). Keep in mind that Passports is not considered a legal form of ID to obtain an MMIC.
Is there an age limit for medical marijuana?
A person has to be at least 18 years or older.
What type of medical records do I need to bring?
Your medical records should include doctor’s notes, x-rays, chiropractic records and current prescriptions.
I have a condition that qualifies me for Medical Marijuana. However, I don’t possess proof of my illness. Do I qualify for a doctor’s recommendation?
You can still come in for the medical evaluation. If you qualify, the doctor will issue you a temporary recommendation. The temporary recommendation is normally a one to three month period.
Will my visit and medical records stay confidential?
